DANNY VAUGHN, 1980

I received this photo from Danny yesterday, along with a couple of other surprises.  I first met him when he coached me at the Rogues Soccer Camp in 1980.  I was in the group of older kids.  He was a great coach and a very nice guy. Tons of good stories and just alot of fun.  He and his family live in his home state of Washington and are all doing well.  Thanks Danny!

MALCOLM ALLISON, "BIG MAL"

This swarthy fellow is Malcom Allison, "Big Mal" to the English football crowd.  He was hired to be the first coach of the Rogues.  There was some sort of falling out between Allison and the Rogues' owners so he was fired before he started the job.  Things didn't turn out too bad though.  The Rogues hired Eddie McCreadie and Malcolm Allison is known as one of the biggest characters and best managers in English football.

This early Rogues logo appeared on a brochure that was mailed out in 1978 to introduce the team and drum up season ticket sales.  It was replaced with the "elephant" logo.

Jado came to the Rogues from Chicago Sting.  This guy had legs like tree trunks!  He was a tough player and had a cannon shot.

MEMPHIS ROGUES PENNANT, 1978

This is the first Rogues souvenir I ever bought.  I got it at the first home game in 1978.  It is in pretty good shape for it's age.

MIKE STANKOVIC vs. ROWDIES, 1980

Stankovic came to the Rogues from the Chicago amateur leagues.  He became an instant star in the 1980 indoor season where he won the MVP award.  His great play continued outdoors that same year.  After the Rogues he went to Dallas Tornado and then to MISL.

ROGUES vs. TULSA, 1980

I took this picture with my brother's totally manual 35mm camera.  I had no idea what I was doing. I am pretty sure the Rogues' player is Paul Cannell.

FIRST HOME GAME AD, 1978

I just found this last night.  It was in an old scrapbook I had from high school.  It ran in the newspaper the day of the Rogues very first homegame, April 8, 1978.  I can remember people complaining that the ticket prices were too high!  Hey, they offered free parking!
