This sign was placed outside of the main entrance to Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium.  It was there from 1978 to 1980 and was taken away after the team was sold and moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  I don't know if it went to Calgary or was discarded.

ROGUES' FAN MEMORIES, 1978

Rogue's fan Greg sent me this great scan of a newspaper clipping from July 20, 1978.  The Rogues played a local restaurant in a charity softball game.  Greg had his picture taken getting an autograph from Alan Birchenall.  He recently found the clip at his aunt's house.  I was at this game too and it was a lot of fun.  The Rogues players were joking with the fans and tried to play softball like cricket.  Birchenall was a huge fan favorite.  He was the joker of the team.  What is "The Birch" hiding behind that magazine?  His cigarette!  Thanks Greg, I really appreciate you sharing this Rogues' memory!

ROGUES REPLY, 1978

I wrote a fan letter to the Rogues after they got their first win against the Dallas Tornado. I received this reply from Kevin card, "The Voice of the Rogues." He was also involved in public relations for the team and was a great guy. If anyone knows where Kevin Card is now, please let me know. I would really like to get in touch with him.

Rogues fan Bill sent me these great photos from the Rogues fan day on August 2, 1978, just prior to the home game against the California Surf.  Bill was seven years old (he's the one in the tank top) and attended the game with his brother, sister, and father.  The players pictured are:  Henry "Mad Dog" McCully (12), John Houska (20), Neil "Beep, Beep" Smillie (4), Tony Field (10), and Bobby "B.T. ROGUES FAN MEMORIES

I received an e-mail from Greg who sent along some great Rogues memories and pictures.  The photo of Greg (next to his sister), his brothers and sister with Jorge Berrio and Toni Carbogniani is from the 1980 fan day.  The back of the photo is autographed by Carbogniani.  Memphis played a friendly against Crystal Palace FC of England in 1979.  Greg sent along a scan of the ticket stub that he carries in his wallet! Thanks very much to Greg for sending these.  It is VERY appreciated!
