BIRCHENALL AND HUSBAND SWAP SHIRTS, 1978


Newspaper article from 1978.  Birchenall and Husband swapped numbers, giving Husband his favored number 7.  It seemed to work.  Husband scored in his first game wearing the new number.

1978 MEMPHIS ROGUES


This  team photo was taken prior to the Rogues first game, away to the Tampa Bay Rowdies.  The original coach, Malcolm Allison, had a falling out with the owners and was replaced with Eddie McCreadie.  McCreadie had six weeks to get the team together and ready for the 1978 season.

THE BEGINNING...



April 8, 1978, Memphis Rogues vs. Philadelphia Fury at Liberty Bowl Stadium. The Rogues' first home game. Pictured are the official KICK Magazine game program and ticket stub. Unfortunately, the Rogues lost 3-2.  Tony Field and Henry McCully scored for the Rogues.  The starting line-up for Memphis was T. Burns, B. Thompson, J. Faulkner, P. Beal, P. D'Agostino, N. Smillie, C. Bennett, H. O'Neill, T. Field, H. McCully, J. Husband.  Attendance was 17,251.
