ROGUES REPLY, 1978

I wrote a fan letter to the Rogues after they got their first win against the Dallas Tornado. I received this reply from Kevin card, "The Voice of the Rogues." He was also involved in public relations for the team and was a great guy. If anyone knows where Kevin Card is now, please let me know. I would really like to get in touch with him.

LIBERTY BOWL MEMORIAL STADIUM, 2010

Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium as it looks today (Really, I took the picture this morning!). It has changed a bit since the Rogues called it home. The original seating capacity was just over 50,000 but it was expanded to 61,000 a few years ago in another failed attempt to lure the NFL into Memphis. It now has a blue and gray color scheme for the main tenant, the University of Memphis football team. During the Rogues days, it was mainly just concrete with yellow benches and red box seats.

"BRING BACK THE BIRCH: THE ALAN BIRCHENALL STORY," 2000

Former Memphis Rogue Alan Birchenall published this autobiography in 2000. I recently obtained a copy and found it very entertaining. I wish he had included more information from his time with the Rogues but he was only in Memphis for one season (1978). The book does have many great stories from Alan's career in England and in America. He was a huge fan favorite in Memphis and everybody remembers what a great character he was, and still is!

Tony Burns was on loan to the Rogues from Crystal Palace FC for the 1978 season. He was the # 1 keeper. He suffered a leg break early in the season forcing rookie John Houska to take over. He returned later and got a couple of starts. After the 1978 season he returned to Crystal Palace. He is currently the goalkeeping coach at Milwall FC in England.
